Polish gov to consider rollout delay request
March 21, 2003
The Polish government is looking at the possibility of extending
the launch deadline and reducing licence fees for mobile operators
with UMTS licences, or even writing off fees in return for investment,
as the operators in the country - no different from their counterparts
in the rest of Europe - are reeling from the debt incurred by the
purchase of the 3G licences.
Poland has already extended the 3G launch by one year to 2005,
but operators are asking for another delay.
Three years ago, three operators (CenterTel, Era and Polkomtel)
in Poland agreed to pay E650m for their UMTS licences.
