3 UK, the first 3G operator in the UK, announced that the NEC e606 3G handset is now available to buy in UK retail stores and pre-ordered customers can pick up their phone at the stores.
"Stocks of the NEC e606 are now available" said 3 and added the phone can be bought in "3Store or participating Carphone Warehouse, Comet, Dixons, phones4U, The Link or independent retailer."
3 started accepting orders at the beginning of March through their web and retail channels but customers had to wait until the handsets became available from NEC. 3 are now starting to deliver handsets to pre-registered customers.
At the moment, 3 has signed up 50,000 customers in Italy and 10,000 in the UK.
The venture, started by Hutchison, NTT DoCoMo and KPN Mobile, tried to lure comsumers to the service by offering special discount rates. Users who signed up before 31st March could save £200 on the handset price and have access to free content absolutely free until the end of June.
