Actix IVS Software Enables UMTS 3G Wireless Operators to Enhance Services
Quality and Networks
March 25, 2003
Actix, the global provider of wireless network and service performance
software, has introduced a new infrastructure verification (A-IVS) solution
that will help mobile operators increase productivity, lower development
costs and improve Quality of Service levels for their 3G customers. Developed
specifically for UMTS (WCDMA) 3G networks, Actix’ desktop-based IVS software
provides access to previously inaccessible service-related performance
information from high-level service health checks to an individual subscriber’s
service experience.
Actix said by using it's IVS technology, mobile operators can gather
and assess this data without having to conduct expensive and time-consuming
drive tests, saving both time and money, and enabling operators to quickly
address technical issues that may affect the Quality of Service (QoS)
levels offered to their subscribers. Actix IVS software offers significant
cost savings at a time when operators are working hard to improve productivity,
profitability and increase both customer retention and QoS levels.
While operators will benefit from the cost reductions delivered by eliminating
the need for manual drive testing, operators’ wireless engineers will
appreciate how Actix’s IVS software reduces their workload at a time when
their and knowledge and resources are already being stretched, as they
struggle to optimize both wireless links and IP connections. The software
enables wireless engineers to fix networks more quickly by providing visibility
of the interaction of various network elements and the quality of each
individual service that is delivered to the subscriber.
Using Actix’ IVS analysis software, wireless operators can trace performance
information across the entire network, from the air interface to the core
network, giving them that ability to identify core network, subscriber,
handset and Internet destination-specific problems.
If, for instance, a customer is experiencing slow download speeds on
his or her wireless data device, that problem could be caused by the radio
link, which might have experienced difficulty setting up the connection,
or by the IP portion of the network, which could be experiencing network
congestion due to heavy Internet usage. Actix’s IVS software enables operators
to quickly resolve the cause of the problem by isolating the portion of
the network that caused the fault.
Rob Dobson, CEO of Actix said, “Actix’s new software enables UMTS wireless
operators to monitor service quality from the subscriber’s perspective.
This is particularly important as wireless data traffic increases and
stretches the current capabilities of the wireless network. Savvy wireless
operators are implementing management tools that sit on top of their UMTS
networks and enable them to maintain optimal service quality for each
individual subscriber – no matter how loaded the networks become.” Dobson
added: “Quality of Service is becoming an increasingly important differentiator
for operators as they look to launch and enhance 3G services, and as data
traffic on wireless networks continues to increase due to the launch of
new services such as MMS, gaming and business enterprise applications.
The software has already been purchased by several European UMTS carriers
and is being used to enhance the delivery of UMTS data services.
