Filtronic selected by major OEM as strategic supply partner for WCDMA
March 16, 2004
Filtronic, a designer and manufacturer of customised microwave electronic subsystems for the wireless telecommunications and defence industries, announces that it has been selected by a new Original Equipment Manufacturer ('OEM') customer, as a Strategic Supply Partner for production quantities of the integrated radio frequency head units for use in 3G WCDMA base stations. This follows the announcement made on 22 September 2003 and the delivery by Filtronic of initial quantities of the first of these two products to this OEM.
Two versions will be required, with production of the first version due to commence in the second half of calendar year 2004. Before volume deliveries can commence, Filtronic must finalise certain outstanding technical and commercial matters. Actions to complete these items are ongoing.
The radio frequency head units to be supplied by Filtronic contain power amplifiers, which incorporate the unique, high power, compound semiconductor transistors manufactured in Filtronic's own fabrication facility at Newton Aycliffe. The products also contain the up/down converters and the high-speed digital CPRI baseband interface and processing capability.
