Mobile operators need to investigate TDD-based 3G solution - report

March 16, 2004

Research and Markets announces the addition of this new report entitled "Alternative Mobile Broadband Access" to its offerings.

Mobile network operators have so far concentrated on deploying FDD WCDMA technology to drive subscriber usage of 3G services - and therefore help increase revenues. With FDD WCDMA turning out to be very good at supporting voice, but not nearly as good for high-speed data, mobile operators need to investigate the TDD-based alternative broadband technologies which will enable them to successfully launch the high speed data services they have been relying on to increase ARPU.

Alternative Mobile Broadband Access provides a clear picture of the market for Alternative Mobile Broadband Technologies and its key players. The report analyses the industry standards, technologies available, both public and proprietary, and profiles 7 vendors able to offer alternative mobile broadband technologies. Profiles are provided for - Arraycomm - Broadstorm Telecommunications - Flarion Technologies - Interdigital Communications - IPWireless - Navini Networks - Nextnet Wireless - TD-SCDMA

The report also analyses the development of TD-SCDMA for the Chinese market.

Alternative Mobile Broadband Access addresses the following major industry topics:

- 3G evolutionary strategies and enhancements to 3G: assess the different options for delivering effective high-speed data services

- Differences between predicted and achievable data speeds: What can be done in the unpaired spectrum band to address this issue?

- Symmetric and asymmetric traffic: how can operators support these in a single network?

- Spectrum issues: what development work is being conducted and what options will this make available to operators?

- Standardisation activity: benefit from a clear examination and comparison of different standards.

This report answers key questions including what TDD technologies are currently available on the market, who are the companies behind the technologies, what are their product offerings, what is the deployment status of each technology, what are the pros and cons of each technology and which would be best suited for your company and what trials have been already set up with operators and how are these faring?
