Croats sign Germans for 3G
March 17, 2005
Croatian mobile operator, T-Mobile Croatia, has selected Siemens Communications to upgrade its existing second generation GSM network to a shiny new W-CDMA one. According to the Munich-based behemoth, the necessary 3G radio and switching equipment will be installed by the end of this year. No financial details were disclosed.
Siemens says it will supply and integrate a series of 3G base stations (NodeBs) as well as the equipment needed to upgrade the operator's circuit-switched and packet-oriented core network 3G. The German vendor will also provide a new network management system.
T-Mobile Croatia will begin rolling out 3G services by the end of the third quarter of this year. The first areas to be covered will be the ten largest urban sectors. Later the service provider will expand its coverage to the rest of the country, although it has not yet given a timetable for exactly when this will happen.
