Thailand's AIS to invest THB 12 billion on 3G
March 20, 2005
Thailand's largest mobile phone operator, Advanced Info Service (AIS), has allocated THB 12 billion (US$313 million) to spend in the first phase of its 3G mobile service.
Bangkok Post reported the company's executive VP Wichien Mektrakarn as saying, "The second phase of investment for 3G access technology, of the same amount, will follow once we find a sound business model with a sizable degree of consumer demand,"
The company plans to launch its first phase 3G service in Bangkok by the middle of 2006 and will have the capacity to accommodate up to a million customers.
Thailand's Shin Corp owns 43% of the company, Singapore's Singtel owns 19% and the rest by different private shareholders.
