March 6, 2006

ZTE Corporation and Cavium Networks, experts in security, network services and embedded processor solutions, announced that ZTE Corporation and Cavium Networks have concluded an agreement wherein ZTE has chosen Cavium Networks OCTEON MIPS64 based Multi-core processors as the platform processor across ZTE's Next Generation Mobile/Wireless Communication System. ZTE's Next Generation networking equipment based on Cavium Networks OCTEON processors will provide 3G Service Providers highest performance, scalable equipment with content- aware features at optimal cost and power points.

"ZTE is committed to bringing leading-edge technology to market with a broad range of feature options that meet the needs of service providers", said Ding Ying Qiu, Director Engineer, 3G Platform Department of ZTE Corporation. "For our next generation platforms, we conducted an extensive evaluation of several options, and selected Cavium's OCTEON as our platform processor. The main reasons for this selection were OCTEON's superior performance, lower power dissipation, integrated application acceleration and best scalability. Moreover, we are pleased with the high-quality, responsive, local technical support provided by Cavium Networks."

"Use of Multi-core technology is a major trend in the design of Next Generation Network Systems. OCTEON, with its high-integration for content processing and deep packet inspection, is an outstanding solution in the networking field," said Sun Hong-Yue, System architect, Mobile Communication Dept of ZTE Co. "OCTEON will save us a lot of software development effort by providing a standard programming model and outstanding L4-L7 performance. We are preparing to provide a broad range of new features and options to ISPs."

"We are pleased to work with ZTE to enable their world-class mobile communication equipment with Cavium's OCTEON processors," said Rajiv Khemani, Vice President of Marketing at Cavium Networks. "China is an important and growing market, and we are committed to supporting customers with local, highly experienced and skilled technical staff. Cavium's OCTEON Multi-core MIPS64 processor family is an excellent fit for a broad range of OEM networking applications in China."

Cavium Networks' OCTEON MIPS64 Multi-core processor family consists of 1 to 16 MIPS64 based cores optimized for networking and low power, with application performance ranging from 100Mbps to over 10Gbps. The OCTEON processor family provides networking vendors a single chip with integrated Ethernet and/or SPI4.2 networking interfaces, up to 144bit DRAM DDR-2 memory controller, optional RLDRAM2/DDR-2 memory controller, optional TCAM connectivity and integrated hardware acceleration for Packet processing, QoS, TCP, Security, Compression / decompression and Pattern matching.
