TELES selects Sierra Wireless HSDPA module for iGATE system

March 13, 2006

Sierra Wireless and TELES Communication Systems announced that TELES has selected the Sierra Wireless MC8755 Mini Card embedded module to provide 3G wireless connectivity for its TELES.iGATE fixed- to-mobile wireless gateway system. TELES Communication Systems is showcasing its iGATE system, designed to reduce interconnection costs for carriers and corporate customers with heavy wireless traffic, at CeBIT 2006, held in Hannover, Germany from March 9 to 15 (Hall 13, Stand A24).

"We are confident that the integration of the MC8755 module into the iGATE system provides our customers with the best available wide area wireless connection," said Frank Paetsch, TELES Head of Research and Development.

"As the functionality and data rates offered by 3G networks continue to improve with the adoption of HSDPA technology, new opportunities open for wireless data applications," said Jim Lahey, Vice President, EMEA for Sierra Wireless. "This as a great opportunity to work with customers like TELES Communication Systems to deliver high quality wireless wide area network connections in new form factors for specialized markets."

MC8755 PCI Express Mini Card for HSDPA/UMTS networks

The MC8755 PCI Express Mini Card module is built using the MSM6275 Mobile Station Modem chipset from QUALCOMM and offers peak download speeds of 1.8 Mbps. The MC8755 operates on the 2100 MHz HSDPA UMTS frequency band and is designed for markets in Europe and Asia. MC8755 modules are also compatible with EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks on all four GSM frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz), for global roaming in areas where an HSDPA or UMTS network is not available.

The MC8755 module measures 51 x 30 x 4.5 mm, weighs in at less than 12 g, and complies with new European Union directives on RoHS (Restrictions on Hazardous Substances).
