3UK reveal 3G datacard and Skype partnership

March 13, 2006

3UK announced the launch of a datacard with the best 3G coverage in the UK. The 3 datacard is on sale today from £39.99. 3 also announced a co-marketing agreement with Skype, which will see 3 customers able to access Skype internet services through 3's datacard.

The datacard

With over 88% population coverage for 3G services, the datacard offers 3 customers faster wireless connectivity via a laptop in more places in the UK than any other network. The 3 datacard enables access to a range of internet services on the move from internet browsing, online purchasing, secure access to banking and email, access to client-based email, chat, instant messaging, VoiP services and corporate VPN connectivity.

Skype agreement

3 has bundled a special starter pack provided by Skype with the "3G Quad" brand of datacard supplied by Option. The starter pack includes the Skype software, a Skype headset and a Skype starter voucher.

Alistair Shrimpton, Skype, UK Market Manager said: "3 offers us access to the largest group of 3G subscribers in the UK and the most comprehensive 3G coverage which means access to Skype on the move has never been easier."

Initially launched on contract price plans, 3's datacard proposition is available at a range of price points, offering unrivalled value to data consumers:
