Qualcomm not interested in Korea 3G biddate: May 9, 2001 Qualcomm on Wednesday said it was not interested in bidding for the third and final 3G licenses in Korea. A spokesman from Qualcomm said they are more interested in research and development instead of running a 3G service. In January Qualcomm was showing sign of interest in jointing a Korean operator to bid for a 3G license using the less popular cdma2000 standard in Korea. December 2000, the Korean Ministry of Information awarded two 3G licenses to SK telecom and Korea telecom. The government would also like to award a third 3G license using the cdma2000 standard, but due to lack of interest by operators, the auction was postponed to mid-June.
