WCDMA rule over 3Gdate: May 11, 2001 In a report by GSM Association, it said WCDMA is going to be the main standard used for 3G services. It said Europe and Asia would have 85% of the 3G market using the WCDMA standard. WCDMA is the 3G standard promoted by most European operators and is used by NTT DoCoMo in its FOMA services. Another 3G standard is cdma2000, this is begin promote by Qualcomm. This standard is beginning to be adopted by telecom operators around the world. Some countries such as South Korea and the US are using both two standards. But most prospective 3G operators are opting for the WCDMA standard. Some analysts said cdma2000 is dead, only low cost operators would opt for cdma2000.
