BT attacks the UK Labour government over 3G issuesdate: May 12, 2001 At a press conference, Alfred Mockett, chief executive of BT lashes out at the Labour government over the hugely expensive price paid for the 3G licenses last year. And telling Gordon Brown (chancellor) the 3G auction was a back-door corporate tax on the telecom sectors and slam him on not announcing the co-operation plan on 3G network sharing early. A 3G license in the UK cost twice as much as would for building the 3G network, an analysis said. This was one of the harshest attacks on the Labour government by any industry groups. This comes at a close time to the UK general election. There are plans to boycott the Labour fund rising functions by the telecom sectors.
