Green party encouraging network sharingdate: May 13, 2001 Environmentalists are lobbying the European Union to allowing 3G operators to share infrastructure. We are concerned with environmental impacts of building new towers across the countryside, the high radio frequency will have a damaging effect on people living near-by the towers and eye sore, said a Green party member from EU. The EU is concern with 3G network co-operation in case it means less competition and raw deals for the consumers. 3G network sharing will create less competition in the mobile market. We do not want to get into a situation where we have a monopoly on our hand, a spokesperson said. And added, new towers will replace the old towers to support 3G services, therefore not a significant numbers of new towers will be build. The EU Green party was not happy with the explanation and they have voting influence in the EU parliament.
