Siemens signs UMTS framework contract with Telia Mobiledate: May 14, 2001 - source: The leading Nordic telecommunication operator Telia Mobile AB, has signed a UMTS framework contract with the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (IC Mobile) covering 3G infrastructure for Norway and Finland with an option for Denmark, which is still subject to license. Within this context, a first contract has now been signed by Telia Mobile's Norwegian subsidiary for mobile communication, NetCom ASA, and Siemens IC Mobile. The contract covers both NetCom's entire core network as well as base stations for the radio network. Siemens IC Mobile has been NetCom's strategic partner and main supplier of GSM infrastructure and technology for its mobile network since 1992. NetCom ASA is aiming to open its UMTS network in Norway in December 2001. A fast rollout and wide population coverage are part of the license conditions.
