One bidder applies for UMTS licenses in Sloveniadate: May 15, 2001 Slovenia's ministry of Information Technology said only one company showed any interest in bidding for the 3G licenses. The ministry tender for three UMTS licenses only received one application and under the rules, at least two bidders must apply else the auction would be cancelled. Analysts believed the price at $90million per license was too high. Only the state owned operator Mobitel applied for the licenses while Austria Si.mobil and US 'Western Wireless failed to participate. Si.mobil said the price of the license was too high which is several times higher per capita than in most European countries. The ministry is expected a re-run in about a month.
