DoCoMo believes 3G profits equal to 2G in 3 yearsdate: May 22, 2001 Keiichi Enoki, managing director Gateway Business Department at NTT DoCoMo said on Tuesday to the press the company would not completely cover Japan with 3G services until 2004 and sees 3G profits equal to I-mode at the same year. He warned, the company would have to wait three years for 3G to make matching profits to I-Mode as consumers are not convinced unless we can get full 3G coverage in Japan. He said 3G roll-out is a complex task which can only be gradually roll-out to provide a very smooth transition to 3G network, consequently consumers have to wait. He assured the press the technology has high potential in Japan where wireless is a big culture as can be seem with I-mode and 3G does not need any killer applications.
