LG Telecom wants to bid for a 3G licensedate: May 28, 2001 LG Telecom confirmed on Monday that it intends to bid for the third and final 3G licence in Korea by the end of June through a join venture with foreign firms. A spokesman from LG said it is actively in talk with numerous of foreign firms to set-up a 3G consortium very soon, possibility as early as next week. Telecom experts believe it could be TIW from Canada due to its close connection with Hutchison3G, which also won a license in the UK. Five local firms expressed an interest to buy the third licenses using the lesser cdma2000 network standard, two of the firms (SK Telecom and Korea Telecom) already in December won two licenses using the superior WCDMA standard. see also: South Korea 3G information
