OniWay delays 3G launch datedate: May 28, 2001 Portuguese 3G license holder OniWay has confirmed that it may have to delay the planned launch of its 3G network until late 2002 due to concern of cell handling problems between base stations. Original plans for the launch of the service had been for 21st November. Antonio Vidigal, CE, Oni said that the company had been waiting for feedback from the trials and launches of DoCoMo and Manx Telecom, but as these had been delayed it had caused a setback for OniWay. He also commented on short handset availability from makers stuff with technical problems. The company had been concerned that the network would suffer the same problems of cell handover that had been experienced by Manx and DoCoMo. Vidigal told reporters the news as he announced the installation of the company's first 3G base station. OniWay is aiming to grab a 25 per cent 3G market share within the next 15 years.
