DoCoMo certain of official approval for 3G launchdate: May 29, 2001 A spokesman from DoCoMo on Monday said he was confident of receiving permission from the parliament to launch commercial 3G services on October 1st. He said, "We are convinced we will get the approval" and added quality of services would guarantee once the service is running. During the weekend, the government of Japan withheld approval for DoCoMo to launch full 3G services because technical quality of the service cannot be guaranteed for the users. There were feared from inside the company that the service cannot go ahead and may be delayed until next year or later. DoCoMo would be allowed with a scheduled introductory launch of trial 3G services because this did not need official approval said an official from the ministry of telecommunications.
