Xfera deploys Comverse 3G Multimedia Messaging Services

date: May 31, 2001 - source: Comverse

Comverse, suppliers of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communications services, on Tuesday announced the sale of Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) and wireless instant messaging to Spanish UMTS wireless operator Xfera.

Comverse's MMS is a standards-based platform that allows mobile users to exchange multimedia messages and runs on GPRS and UMTS networks. It will provide Xfera's subscribers using 3G handset with the ability to create, send and receive messages with audio, pictures, text, animation and streaming video. Comverse's wireless instant messaging is a suite of applications that enables the creation of mobile communities among 3G mobile users and Internet users.

MMS and Instant Messaging are designed to generate new revenue streams in the 2.5G and 3G environments. Comverse's scalable and flexible platform allows Xfera to expand with the growth of its subscriber base.

Zeev Bregman, Chief Executive Officer of Comverse, stated, "We are proud that the European UMTS operator, Xfera, considers Comverse's MMS as the best solution available today on the market to quickly implement a comprehensive range of next generation services. We are confident that our solution is a strategic tool that will go a long way in helping our customers offer attractive, revenue-generating services to their 3G wireless carriers."
