3GPP Approves 3G Americas as Market Representation Partnerdate: May 3, 2002 3G Americas, a new global wireless trade organization focused on the wireless industry in the Americas, was accepted as a new Market Representation Partner (MRP) of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) at the meeting of its Partners, held in New Orleans. Chris Pearson, Executive Vice President of 3G Americas stated, "3G Americas fully supports the mission of the 3GPP and the significant contributions it makes to the industry. We are honored that 3G Americas was unanimously accepted by the Organizational Partners to be a Market Representation Partner and appreciate the opportunity to serve in this role with 3GPP." 3G Americas is focused on the future success of wireless in the Americas and it is imperative that we partner with global organizations such 3GPP, its Organizational Partners and Market Representation Partners, to bring solid technical solutions to the marketplace," Pearson further remarked. "Success of wireless in the Americas is highly dependent upon the region’s continued uptake of the GSM evolution to UMTS and our ability to contribute to the development of a consensus view of market requirements." Adrian Scrase, Head of Mobile Competence Centre for 3GPP welcomed 3G Americas to its status as an MRP. "3GPP is pleased to accept 3G Americas into this partnership and have its support in providing market requirements from North, Central, and South America. It is of great benefit to have a new MRP that provides input from this region."
