KDDI sold more 3G phones than DoCoModate: May 9, 2002 KDDI Corp, Japan's second-largest telecoms firm, said on Thursday it sold 330,000 phones for its 3G mobile service in April, the first month of its launch, surpassing its own 280,000 target. The company said it had shipped 1.02 million of the video-enabled and GPS (global positioning system) handsets since the services were launched in December and had regained top position in the domestic market. Last month, DoCoMo has now managed to sign up over 100,000 subscribers. Figures just released state that there were 106,000 FOMA subscribers at the end of April. The number represents an approximate jump of 23,000 subscribers since late March, when DoCoMo president, Keiji Tachikawa, said revealed that initial growth had been slower than expected.
