AT&T Wireless and Sprint Complete Spectrum Exchange

Sprint and AT&T Wireless announced the completion of an equal exchange of certain 10 MHz blocks of PCS spectrum in major U.S. markets under an agreement announced by both companies in November 2000. The spectrum exchanged covers approximately 18.5 million potential customers, or "licensed POPs," for each company.

As a result of the exchange, AT&T Wireless acquired additional spectrum in San Francisco, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; West Palm Beach, Fla.; Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Austin, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah and San Luis Obispo, Calif. In return, Sprint received spectrum for Atlanta, Ga.; Houston, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; Raleigh, N.C.; Greensboro, N.C.; Memphis, Tenn.; Santa Fe, N.M. and Cleveland, Ohio.

"Once again, AT&T Wireless has leveraged its rich portfolio of spectrum," said AT&T Wireless Chairman and CEO John D. Zeglis. "By exchanging spectrum we could spare in certain areas, we've nicely bolstered our capacity in important 3G markets in the U.S. This was an extremely capital efficient way to further enhance our spectrum position as we continue a fast-paced deployment of our global-standard, next-generation 3G network."
