French 3G to mirror 2Gdate: May 23, 2002 It has now been confirmed by ART, the French telecoms regulator, that Bouygues Telecom is the lone bidder in France's second 3G auction. No other parties have shown an interest and the market for 3G looks set to reflect that of the 2G market, with just three players. Bouygues said it will invest EUR700-800m per year over the period 2004-7 in rolling out its 3G network, with deployment commencing at end-2003. The company said it expected to have services commercially available by 2004.
