J-PHONE Recruits Volunteers to Monitor 3G Test Servicesdate: May 23, 2002 J-PHONE announced that it would start recruiting volunteers to monitor the IMT-2000 third generation mobile telecommunications system (3G) test services. Applications will be accepted from May 22, 2002, via the company's web site. J-PHONE will recruit volunteers from among individuals and groups who are living, working or studying in the test service areas and who are able to monitor these test services. A set comprising of a handset and accessories for 3G test services will be provided free of charge to those volunteers who agree to complete questionnaires and other surveys during the test period. Volunteers are required to pay their own call charges. Contract processing and basic monthly charges will be free. J-PHONE will start 3G test services in the Tokyo metropolitan area from June 30, 2002. In order to ensure greater stability and convenience, J-PHONE will utilize the test results in the nationwide commercial 3G services to be launched in December of this year.
