KDDI teams up with SK Telecom on photo exchangedate: May 27, 2002 South Korea's SK Telecom confirmed Monday the company has partnered with Japan's KDDI to start a new 3G service Tuesday in which their mobile phone subscribers will be able to exchange still photo images. No other details were immediately available. SK Telecom, South Korea's largest wireless carrier, said it will issue later Monday a press release regarding the service. KDDI also said it plans on introducing the 3G service, but provided no other details. SK Telecom's statement comes after a report by Asahi Shimbun Monday that the two companies will introduce the service by the end of May to take advantage of an anticipated surge in consumer demand during the World Cup. The report said the service will be the first to offer international compatibility for photo transmission via a camera-equipped 3G mobile phone.
