Sanyo to launch OEL display cellphone

Sanyo is reportedly planning to launch a cellphone with an organic electro-luminescent (OEL) display by October this year. OEL displays are said to consume less power than the standard LCD displays, and can apparently also operate longer on a single battery recharge.

Although KDDI plans to use OEL display phones for its cdma2000 1x service, the market price for such handsets is expected to be 50 to 100 per cent more than the JPY30,000 (EUR258.9) to JPY50,000 (EUR431.6) for standard 3G phones.
