Five Firms bids for Malaysia 3G auctiondate: May 30, 2002 The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Wednesday said five companies made bids for the three third-generation mobile phone spectrum it will award by July 30. The bidders were state-controlled Telekom Malaysia Bhd., Technology Resources Industries Bhd.'s unit Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd., Time dotCom Bhd.'s unit Time Sat Sdn. Bhd, and two privately-held companies, E-Touch Sdn. Bhd. and UMTS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., said the commission in a statement. The commission issued tender documents in February and Wednesday was the closing day for submission. The value of the tender was set at a fixed price of 50 million ringgit ($1=MYR3.80). The commission said bidders will be evaluated on six criteria, namely their ability to ensure service rollout and coverage, capacity for infrastructure sharing, roaming capacity, financial standing, commitment to industry development, and their management and technical expertise. "The successful bidders will be entitled to an allocation of spectrum blocks for the period of 15 years," the commission said.
