Hutchison 3G (UK) has indicated that it could fall short of its one million subscriber target for 2003. The company’s CEO Colin Tucker has stated that 3 is experiencing good demand for its next-generation handsets but at the same time hinted that end of year subscriber figures would only be ‘close to’ its original target. Technical glitches with Hutchison’s network back in March are thought to have put it slightly behind schedule.
Hutchison 3G UK and its affiliates in Italy, Sweden, Austria, Denmark and Ireland are now aiming for two million 3G customers across their networks by the close of 2003. Hutchison UK is currently working to expand its service coverage from 60% to 70% of the population and is planning to introduce additional dual-mode GSM/W-CDMA handset models later this year in time for the all-important pre-Christmas period.
