3 UK appoints Gareth Jones as Chief Operating Officer
May 29, 2003
3 UK today announced the appointment of Gareth Jones as Chief Operating
Officer. In this role, Gareth will be responsible for the management of
the Marketing, Sales and Distribution teams. This new role encompasses
all the customer-facing elements of the business, including 3 stores,
the contact centres, products and services.
Gareth, 45, was formerly group director of sales and distribution for
Orange. He has over fifteen years experience in the telecommunications
industry, having joined Hutchison Telecom in 1989 as Sales Director for
their UK operations, he was subsequently appointed Group Director of Sales
for Orange in 1993 and was Group Sales and Distribution Director from
1997 until 2001.
Bob Fuller, Co-CEO 3 UK said: “When I joined 3 UK I initiated an operational
review that is now underway. As part of that process and in order to ensure
the review is rapid and thorough I have appointed Gareth Jones as chief
operating officer. The role reflects the company’s shift from a development
phase to being operational and will have a specific customer focused remit.
I worked with Gareth for ten years at Orange and his skills are an excellent
fit for the new role and the challenges of offering customers a new technology.
He is an excellent operational manager, who takes a hands on approach
and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
Commenting on his appointment Gareth Jones said: “I’m very pleased to
be joining 3 at this exciting time. 3 is the first mobile network to bring
video to market and early research shows that customers are impressed
by the new technology. My job is to address all operational issues and
to ensure customers receive the best possible service from 3. I believe
that my experience at Orange, where I worked closely with Bob Fuller and
other Hutchison colleagues, has put me in an ideal position to take on
this challenging role.”
