LG supplies Hutchison with 3 million 3G videophone

3 announces today the choice of LG Electronics of Korea as preferred UMTS Videophone provider. Under the commercial agreement, LG Electronics is committed to supplying 3 million UMTS dual mode terminals, compatibles with the GSM standards (900 and 1800 Mhz.) and GPRS, to the 3 group of companies by the end of 2004.
Thanks to this agreement, LG Electronics joins Motorola and NEC in the group of the preferred Videophone providers of Hutchison's 3 businesses, extending the range of 3G phones available for 3 clients in the world.
Starting from today, the U8110, which is the first videophone for LG Electronics, produced exclusively for 3 will be sold in the Italian shops from today.
With its appealing clamshell design, the U8110, is the smallest UMTS Videophone available in the market: its weight is only 126 grams and boasts a linear minimalist design (95x49x22 mm.)
The U8110 offers all the third generation services as the Videocall with vivavoice, the access to Tua TV and to the 3 Portal multimedia contents, to Videomessages, MMS and e-mail, besides the navigation in Internet with speed up to 384 kbps. The vivavoice, the high definition videocamera with 180¢X rotation and integrated flash, the interior display with 65.536 colours and the exterior one, the multimedia player (MP3, MP4), the high capacity battery (1200 mAh) and the Java games, are only some of the features of the new Videophone. Among the other features, the polyphonic ring tones with 64 tones, the agenda, the USB and IrDa connectivity and a software to produce personalized avatar associable to the contacts.
The U8110 has a promotional price of only 199 euro in the U-Sim locked version (whilst stocks last), and the price for the Operator Locked version will be 299 euro.
Moreover the launch of the U8110 coincides with the opening of the GPRS roaming service with TIM, that further increases the functionality and usage of 3 for clients, who are now enjoying a 3G coverage of the 63% of the national population.
