Huawei deploys CDMA2000 WLL for Telecom Egypt

May 11, 2004

Huawei announced that it is continuing the participation in developing Egyptian Telecom market through a close cooperation with Telecom Egypt in extending telephony services through the deployment of its CDMA WLL solution for national coverage of various remote and rural areas and to alleviate network capacity or roll out problems.

Huawei has partnered with Telecom Egypt in several telecom projects including the extension of Telecom Egypt fixed access network through HONET product family and doubling the capacity of pre-paid IN services using Huawei TELLIN platform.

Huawei will undertake CDMA2000 WLL lines expanding telephony services to Upper Egypt, Suez Canal region, Sinai, as well as the Mediterranean northern coast, achieving thus the biggest share in terms of coverage.

CDMA2000 technology offers several economic and technical advantages as wireless technology targeted at local loop and mobile solutions including spectral efficiency, higher data rates as well as price point superiority to other technologies.

Huawei senior V.P. Mr. Ding Shaohua indicated "we are very pleased to cooperate with Telecom Egypt yet again in a strategic telecom project to bring our expertise in CDMA wireless technology widely deployed in China and worldwide to catalyze local manufacturing capabilities and local technical expertise to fulfill requirements and orders for this significant project."

Also, Algeria Telecom and Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) have selected the company as the strategic partner to construct CDMA2000 1X WLL networks.

"We are quite sure Huawei's CDMA2000 will succeed in achieving what the other WLL technologies have failed to do, and will gain the end user satisfaction with its diversified services and high speed data rates", confirms Mr. Moheb Ramses, Technical Director of MENA Mobile Networks.
