On-time sampling of RF CMOS devices for CDMA2000 1X
May 13, 2004
Qualcomm announced the on-time sampling of the single-band RFR6122 and RFT6122 radioOne Zero Intermediate Frequency (ZIF) chips, the wireless industry's first CDMA2000 1X devices developed with RF CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process technology. This complete CDMA2000 1X chipset system - which includes the MSM6025 or MSM6000 Mobile Station Modem (MSM), the RFR6122 receive chip, the RFT6122 transmit chip, and the PM6610 powerOne power management device - enables the development of cost-competitive wireless CDMA2000 1X devices for emerging markets worldwide, including China, India and Latin America. The Company began shipping samples of the RFR6122, RFT6122 RF CMOS chips and the low-cost PM6610 device in May 2004.
CMOS is a low-cost, high-volume digital process technology used for a majority of today's digital computer microchips. By migrating RF designs to an RF CMOS-based process technology, cell phones and other wireless handheld devices can leverage significant economies of scale.
"We are meeting our commitments of providing industry-leading, cost-effective solutions to our customers that enable them to reach their development and marketing goals. With the on-time sampling of our RF CMOS devices, our partners can continue developing cost-effective wireless devices that will help broaden the addressable market for CDMA2000 wireless services in emerging markets around the world," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "The RFR6122 and RFT6122 represent the first stage of our overall strategy to develop RF CMOS solutions that will eventually span all market segments, from entry-level to high-end."
The RFR6122 and RFT6122 devices are part of Qualcomm's portfolio of single-band CDMA2000 1X solutions. The RFR6122 device is a dedicated single-band cellular receiver with integrated low-noise amplifier (LNA) and voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and provides full down conversion from RF to analog baseband. The RFT6122 device is a dedicated single-band cellular transmit from analog baseband to RF, and includes integrated transmit phase locked loop (PLL) and VCO along with Rx PLL. The PM6610 power management device provides battery management and charging functions, programmable voltage regulation and various user interface support functions.
