Telekom Slovenije deploys Actelis Networks' MetaLIGHT to backhaul 3G base stations

May 23, 2005

Telekom Slovenije, in partnership with Masterline, has deployed the Actelis Networks MetaLIGHT platforms to backhaul 3G cellular base stations. Actelis delivers broadband over copper solutions that enable profitable, carrier-grade, broadband services using the existing copper infrastructure.

Telekom Slovenije is using Actelis' MetaLIGHT platforms to provide high quality bandwidth to connect 3G cellular base stations (Node-B) that are reachable only by copper, delivering high quality bandwidth to the radio network controller (RNC). Telekom Slovenije delivers those services for Mobitel, its cellular subsidiary.

"Actelis' MetaLIGHT is an excellent solution for us," said Mr Miran Seuing of Telekom Slovenije. "It provides a highly reliable link over copper pairs with an excellent bit error rate (BER). We embrace the robust MetaLOOP technology with its high-quality transmission, small transmission delay, modularity in terms of capacity and interfaces, and the ability to monitor the performance of the system. It enables us to quickly respond to market demands and provide services to our customers, including our subsidiary, Mobitel."

Masterline and Telekom Slovenije tested and evaluated several solutions, with Actelis' MetaLIGHT the only solution able to provide the necessary reach to remote areas, reliable high-bandwidth, flexibility, as well as fast and easy deployment. As a result, the MetaLIGHT solution has been successfully implemented into Telekom Slovenije's network and will continue to answer rising customer demands with the MetaLIGHT portfolio of products.

"Actelis is extremely pleased to have Telekom Slovenije deploying the MetaLIGHT to extend the reach of its telecommunications network," said Ronen Peleg, Actelis Networks vice president of sales for EMEA.

"MetaLIGHT solutions enable service providers like Telekom Slovenije to respond to the demands of their customers by providing the best-of-breed solution for carrier-class quality, high performance and synchronisation capabilities that fit cellular networks. Actelis looks forward to a continued and increasing relationship with Telekom Slovenije and Masterline."

Powered by Actelis' patented MetaLOOP technology, Actelis platforms provide far better rate, reach and reliability than other Ethernet-over-Copper solutions. With the ability to provide high-quality bandwidth to distances beyond 6km, Actelis' platforms are ideal to support a wide range of broadband applications including backhauling of 3G/UTMS base stations, WiFi and DSLAMs. They are also well suited to transparent LAN services, LAN interconnection, and voice and video over IP.
