T-Mobile selects GemXplore Generations as the next 3G SIM platform

May 26, 2005

Gemplus International announces its selection by T-Mobile to provide its new GemXplore Generations operating system as the basis for future card and service deployment for their customers.

GemXplore Generations responded to T-Mobile's requests by complying with the latest multimedia features and standards releases, both of which can be updated over the air at any stage of the SIM lifecycle. This reduces time-to-market and increases the value of the SIM as a platform for future service updates and deployment. GemXplore Generations offers the flexibility necessary for T-Mobile to license the Operating System and outsource personalization in a highly secure way.

Przemek Czarnecki, Executive Vice President Terminal Technology, T-Mobile, said "After a diligent evaluation process where we examined various up-to-date SIMs on the market we finally selected Gemplus' GemXplore Generations as it revealed to be the most technologically advanced concept of OS. GemXplore Generations allows us to provide a common smartcard platform for the T-Mobile group while - at the same time - giving consideration to specific local needs."

Philippe Vallee, Executive Vice President, Telecom, Gemplus, said "This is the perfect illustration that our products correspond to the needs of our clients. GemXplore Generations was developed with our customers in mind bringing increased flexibility for the provisioning of new services, which by nature are continually evolving. Following the product launch earlier this year, we are pleased that such an operator as T-Mobile has quickly recognized its value for their networks. We are confident that our new, improved SIM will help them make the most of this strategic and uniquely placed part of their network in the hands of their customers."
