mobilkom austria selects optimization software from Symena

May 23, 2006

mobilkom austria now uses the optimization tool Capesso from Symena. The ability to optimize mobile technologies UMTS, EDGE and GSM through this software is beneficial to mobilkom austria in fulfilling its pact with Carinthia, Burgenland and Lower Austria. Customers benefit from even higher network quality.

With mobilkom austria's purchase of Capesso optimization software from Symena, the contract concluded provides the option of employing this tool in the international subsidiaries of the mobilkom austria group in Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Liechtenstein as well. The software is already in use in Austria.

Optimization of mobile networks plays an increasingly important role due to the interoperability between the various systems. For this reason, mobilkom austria has opted for the solution offered by Symena. "With the Capesso software, UMTS-, EDGE- and GSM-standard mobile networks can be planned and optimized even more efficiently. This solution simplifies the selection of locations for base stations and allows the many parameters at the transmission locations, such as antenna configuration, to be calculated more effectively. Capacity is maximized and possible interference is minimized. As a result, A1 customers benefit from even higher network quality," says Ulrich Rokita, Division Manager Network Planning, mobilkom austria, explaining the advantages of the new optimization software.

With the continuing increase in data traffic and speed, the use of this software in UMTS expansion can help minimize later intensive network densification - the configuration of the network is changed in such a way as to ensure that only a small number of new UMTS base stations need be added to existing stations. By using Capesso, the complete expansion of a mobile network can be accomplished using considerably fewer base stations. This in turn makes continued expansion of the UMTS network possible at lower levels of investment. In addition, this tool is already now adapted for use of future antenna technologies such as "intelligent antennas."

"Most important to mobilkom austria is the increase in actual network capacity and quality. Particularly the Capesso's ability to jointly optimize mobile technologies UMTS and GSM in future is beneficial to mobilkom austria in fulfilling its pact with Carinthia, Burgenland and Lower Austria," concludes Rokita.
