T-Mobile Germany to provide laptops with HSDPA technology

May 24, 2006

T-Mobile Germany and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are giving mobile data communication a huge boost: From mid-June 2006, the two will offer professional laptops with fully integrated HSDPA technology (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) as part of their exclusive partnership. The state-of-the-art, compact LIFEBOOK Q2010 will be the first. Notebooks with "HSDPA inside" are most suitable for surfing the Internet and working in the corporate network while traveling since there is no need to buy, install, carry or insert a special data card. Since T-Mobile is the first German mobile network operator to provide its entire UMTS network with HSDPA, users in a large number of towns and regions can benefit from the mobile broadband technology. Based on a data option, they can enjoy new speeds at no additional cost. The quasi flat rate web'n'walk XL tariff with the DataConnect Exclusive pure data tariff is highly recommended.

Alongside T-Mobile Germany, T-Mobile Austria is also marketing the LIFEBOOK Q2010 with its partner Fujitsu Siemens Computers. The professional notebook is available in Austria exclusively via the T-Mobile qualified partner S&T. As the first mobile communications provider in the country, T-Mobile Austria is offering customers HSDPA technology across Austria. As the first provider of large-scale HSDPA technology both in Germany and in Austria and with innovative offers such as laptops with integrated HSDPA module, T-Mobile is thus occupying new markets, primarily in the business customer segment.

Using HSPDA, T-Mobile customers can surf the Internet, perform downloads and access applications on the corporate network whilst on the move with bandwidths of up to 1.8 Megabits per second. The innovative technology has been provided across the entire UMTS network of T-Mobile Germany since the beginning of May 2006. This UMTS/HSDPA network currently extends to over 1,000 cities in Germany, and therefore already reaches approx. 60 percent of the population. Furthermore, T-Mobile, together with T-Com, will provide around 7,000 locations, such as airports, hotels and restaurants, with high-speed mobile data transfer via W-LAN (Wireless Local Area Network). To increase the range of broadband services in more remote regions, T-Mobile has started to equip the nationwide GPRS network with EDGE technology. EDGE offers transfer speeds of up to 220 Kilobits per second, i.e. four times faster than ISDN in the fixed network. In addition to the mobile communications standards GPRS and EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA, the LIFEBOOK Q2010 also supports W-LAN and Bluetooth.

The LIFEBOOK Q2010 is a successful combination of exceptional design, innovative mobile technology and optimum functionality. The device has a DIN A4 format and is only 18 millimeters thick. Weighing only one kilogram, it is also extremely light. Titanium hinges, magnesium housing and multi-layer black piano lacquer are the three key features of the top-quality finish of the LIFEBOOK Q2010. The widescreen display provides a particularly large viewing angle so that information can be easily viewed together with business partners. Highly effective security mechanisms for protecting access to stored data round off the professional features. In Germany, the Q series can be purchased from authorized Fujitsu-Siemens partners in the IT trade and T-Punkt Business outlets.

T-Mobile and Fujitsu Siemens Computers are currently preparing other laptop models with integrated HSDPA technology. Furthermore, other cooperations of T-Mobile with international partners are due to make a start in the business mobile data communication area in the near future.

An optimum tariff for easy use of HSDPA with a LIFEBOOK is the DataConnect Exclusive pure data tariff in conjunction with the web'n'walk XL data option. The basic price of the tariff is EUR 8.95 per month. The web'n'walk XL option incorporates a huge inclusive volume of 5 GB, with an amazing additional 200 hours for W-LAN sessions at the hotspot. The monthly price is only EUR 35, plus an additional daily utilization price of EUR 1. For days on which the customer only uses the option for data transfers at the hotspot there is no daily flat rate fee.
