Brussels is watching 3G

date: 16 November 2000

The European Commission's antitrust services are keeping a watchful eye on 3G auctions across Europe, but it confirmed it has not been approached by the Italian antitrust authority, as some sources claimed earlier this week. The Commission will watch to ensure that no anti-competitive actions take place and will take immediate action if it believes that there are. Rumours have been circulating that some of the players in the Italian auction were colluding to rig the auction, keeping prices down. An official Italian investigation has already started and the Antitrust body has formally set a deadline of June 30 2001 to report its findings.
