Ericsson, D2 Team Up For Rapid German 3G Net Rollout

date: 27 November 2000, source: Newsbytes.com

Ericsson [NASDAQ:ERICY] has signed a rapid rollout agreement for a third generation (3G) wireless network infrastructure in Germany with the D2 network.

The plan is for Ericsson to deliver, install and service a complete 3G network for the German wireless carrier. The contract, which is worth 500 million euros ($600 million), runs through until the end of 2002.

Ericsson said that, working with D2, it has gathered a lot of experience on 3G, after the two companies have cooperated in running a 3G test environment in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Bernt Hvgberg, Ericsson Deutschland's president, said that where Germany has become one of the most important markets in Europe, D2 is now a market leader.
