3G Price War Set to Break Out in Germanydate: November 15, 2001 - source: BWCS A 3G mobile handset price war is expected to break out in Germany when next generation phones finally go on sale there late next year. The Spanish / Finnish group Quam, formerly known as Group 3G, has said it will subsidise prices for its third generation phones. German analysts expect that other 3G licence holders will follow its lead. Quam, which is backed by Finnish company Sonera (42.8%) and Spanish company Telefonica Moviles (57.2%), paid DM16.446 billion (US$7.63 billion) for its German 3G licence in August 2000. In common with the other five next generation mobile licence holders in Germany, it is anxious to begin making a return on its hefty investment as soon as possible.
