One2One delays WCDMA network rolloutdate: November 25, 2001 One2One, the fourth largest GSM mobile operators in the UK- the mobile phone which is owned by Deutsche Telekom, does not plan to rollout its WCDMA 3G network service until the late half of 2003. Harris Jones, the chief executive also stress that its GPRS service will not be rollout until the first quater of next year. "We haven't launched GPRS yet. Not because we couldn't but because we've chosen not to," said "Next year is the year for us to make hay with GPRS," Mr Jones said, noting that he thought the industry had made a "terrible" mistake with the launch of the much-criticised WAP technology and was in danger of "marching down that same road" with GPRS. The company holds one of the five UMTS licenses awarded in the UK, bought for £4 bn in the UK government's 3G auction in May 2000. On October, the Appeal Court has ruled against BT and One2One in their battle with the government over payments for 3G licences. The two firms alleged the government acted unfairly by giving Vodafone and Orange extra time to pay a combined £10 billion in licence fees, arguing the 180-day extension effectively cost them £85 million each in lost interest.
