Sweden saw its first UMTS antennasdate: November 27, 2001 The first 3G antennas have been erected in Sweden, one year after the country's UMTS 3G licences were awarded to Europolitan, Hi3G, Orange and Tele2/Telia. The Swedish Post and Telecommunications Agency requires the licensees to have their 3G networks ready on 31 December 2003, covering 99.98% of the population. However figures from the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration show that so far the four licence holders have together only filed 700 applications for setting up 3G antennas, while approximately 10,000 such antennas will have to be erected for the 3G networks to function. The operators say that they are not worried about the situation, although they will now have to apply for around 300-350 antenna permits monthly for the 25 months remaining until the network deadline. The Post and Telecommunications Agency has noted that it sees no reason to change the terms of the 3G licences, reports the Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri.
