Qualcomm Enters into CDMA Subscriber Unit License Agreement with Hisense Groupdate: November 28, 2001 Qualcomm Incorporated, pioneer of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and Hisense Group Co., today announced that they have signed a commercial subscriber unit license agreement. Under the terms of the worldwide royalty-bearing license agreement, Qualcomm has granted Hisense Group a license under Qualcomm's CDMA patent portfolio to develop, manufacture and sell cdmaOne and third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1X/1xEV subscriber equipment. Hisense Group will pay Qualcomm ongoing royalties at the same rate, irrespective of the licensed CDMA standard implemented. "Qualcomm is pleased to include additional Chinese manufacturers such as Hisense Group to our growing list of licensed CDMA equipment providers," said Marv Blecker, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. "This agreement will allow Hisense Group to participate in the worldwide CDMA market, and offer current and next-generation wireless solutions." "The capabilities of CDMA technology allow Hisense Group to meet the growing demand for innovative, advanced wireless devices in China and worldwide," said Peng Xianqi, vice president for Hisense Group Co. "We look forward to cooperating with Qualcomm to help bring our CDMA products to market rapidly." Hisense Group is another manufacturer in China that has committed to support Qualcomm's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) applications platform, which allows rapid development of a wide variety of applications designed specifically for wireless devices in which users will be able to download over carrier networks onto any BREW-enabled handset.
