KDDI To Offer Music Clips On 3G handsets
November 19, 2002
KDDI said it has teamed up with Label Mobile Co. and plans to offer
music clips on KDDI's 3G mobile services "au" in the beginning of
December. The move is a respond to the growing demand among Japanese
consumers for ringtone melodies and songs on their mobile phones.
KDDI's 3G customers will be able to download 15 to 30sec song
clips via Ezweb mobile service. Users can then use the clips as
ringers and would sound just like tunes on CDs. There will be around
300 songs available at the launch and the operator plans to increase
the number of songs available in the future. Price is expected to
be between 84 Yen and 105 Yen per song, but it depends on the content.
KDDI said it will sell two 3G handsets compatible with the new
service - Casio's "A5302CA" and Hitachi's "A5303H" model.
