Hutchison 3G to decide on tariff plans
November 25, 2002
A survey conducted by Hutchison 3G of UK indicates strong interest
in simple voice call charges across all networks, as well as all
inclusive monthly tariffs. Over 15,000 consumers from 150 focus
groups were surveyed in the last 18 months.
The operator outlined three tariff options at one meeting, where
the tariff of £65 a month with unlimited voice and video calls to
all mobile networks in the UK as well as landline was by the far
the most popular.
Even so, there is concern over the price of the handsets, one priced
at £400 and the other at £600, and both without subsidises.
One of the other tariffs proposed has a monthly fee of £15 with
£120 off each handset price. Voice calls to Hutchison mobiles cost
5p a minute and those to other mobiles 25p a minute. Calls to UK
landlines were proposed at 10p a minute.
The operator has yet to make decisions on tariff plans, saying,
"We have made no decision on tariffs yet. We will continue to explore
options, but it is unlikely we will go further with any of these
specific options."
During the meetings, attendees were showed video clips of football
goals and asked them whether they would be willing to pay for these
clips.
Hutchison said it would have a 56% 3G coverage of the UK at launch
and calls outside this area would be covered by a roaming agreement
with mobile operator mmO2.
One analyst is septic of the all inclusive price plan in the long
run.
