UTStarcom signs TD-SCDMA 3G alliance with Datang
November 25, 2002
UTStarcom today announced the signing of a strategic partnership
with Datang Mobile, marking their joint effort to develop and promote
the TD-SCDMA 3G standard. The partnership between UTStarcom and
Datang, which began in early 2000, will provide a complete 3GPP
R4 compliant end-to-end TD-SCDMA solution, using UTStarcom's IP-based
core network, Datang's base stations and a co-developed radio access
network.
"3G brings a precious development opportunity for China's telecommunications
industry in the new century," said Mr. Ru'an Tang, Chief Operating
Officer of Datang Mobile. "We believe that through the synergy of
our combined technical advantages, our partnership will be able
to deliver commercial TD-SCDMA systems ahead of the launch of China's
3G market, thus allowing for TD-SCDMA to prove its advantages in
technology, cost and migration from legacy networks. Through this
important partnership with UTStarcom, we expect our products and
technology will satisfy the rigorous demands of operators and their
customers."
"We are especially pleased to be working with such a strong partner,
Datang, to facilitate the technology development of TD-SCDMA," said
Laqiang Teng, Sr. Vice President of UTStarcom China. "UTStarcom
will fully utilize its existing IP-based softswitch system, mSwitch,
to support the TD-SCDMA platform and will cooperate with Datang
in the development of key system equipment."
