DoCoMo reject acquisition claims

Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo Tuesday denied it had plans to take over British mobile operator mmO2. The statement was a response to a weekend report that DoCoMo could bid for mmO2.

"Our partner in Britain is 3UK. We hold a stake in the company. We are not considering acquiring mmO2," a DoCoMo spokeswoman said.

DoCoMo has a 20% hold in 3UK, the only 3G operator in Britain. The Japanese firm also has stakes in other foreign operators and is keen to find partners to launch its i-mode service overseas. It has failed to come to an agreement with 3UK to launch i-mode service in the UK and could seek another partner in the country.

mmO2 has also denied the speculation and said it is not involved in merger and acquisition talks with any other companies.
