Nokia to enter Korea again with 3G

Nokia is preparing to enter the Korean market once again with CDMA2000 mobile handsets and N-Gage gaming phone in the line-up.

A source from Nokia Korea said that it would rollout CDMA2000 1x mobile phones Korea as early as January to be used for SK Telecom's mobile network.

Nokia will provide CDMA mobile phone fitted with its own chip rather than Qualcomm's chips.

"The new handset, being developed at its CDMA R&D centre in San Diego, the United States, is installed with its own chip instead of Qualcomm's chip," said the source at Nokia Korea.

Nokia will supply SK Telecom with mobile handsets from its US plant and is prepared to offer WCDMA handsets in the future.

The N-Gage gaming phone was available in other countries since October. Nokia is targeting a launch for the phone during the Christmas period when demand for it is expected to be high.
