Huawei launches 3G UMTS handsets and PCMCIA data card

November 16, 2004

Huawei Technologies, a Chinese telecommunications vendor, announced the global launch of commercially ready-for-market UMTS devices at the 3G World Congress & Exhibition in Hong Kong. With the launch of the three types of commercially marketable series terminal UMTS products, Huawei is the first producer of 3G handset in China.

The 3G products will be put into batch production in February 2005. Orders are being accepted now and the company plans to put out the 3G mobile phones with PTT function in the second quarter of next year. Huawei plans to further expand its investment in 3G terminal development and accelerate the introduction of other related products.

"Huawei Technologies' breakthrough in the 3G market with these 3G terminal products is significant as it shows the industry that we have moved beyond our role of a supplier of communications system equipment," said Xu Zhijun, executive vice president of Huawei Technologies. "Huawei now offers a brand new choice to 3G operators and mobile subscribers throughout the world."

"SUNDAY is very pleased to be partner with Huawei Technologies to demonstrate its commitment to launch 3G in Hong Kong in 2005," said Bruce Hicks, Group Managing Director of SUNDAY Communications Limited. "We congratulate Huawei on the launch of the three types of 3G terminal products. I remain convinced that SUNDAY's partnership with Huawei will ultimately deliver among the world's most advanced mobile multimedia services when we launch in Hong Kong in 2005."
